Koultoura Coffee Jakarta: WARNINGS to Coffee Shops in Town!

I started to stalk pay attention to this coffee shop since my following on Instagram are posting photos of this new coffee shop in town, I literally fell in love from the first peek! Especially the branding and the mural painting! (going there in a moment).

I managed a lunch to meet up with my old friend from junior high here last week, she's also the one who's excited about me reviewing this coffee house! My first impression when I looked at the building was like...wow!!! it's such a nice place, kind of what my imaginary coffee shop should be, I have always loved the good old coffee shop with major usage of woods or either strong on its minimalist touch. I think I should build my own coffee shop instead of bragging around. So far, I'm already impressed.

Walking into this coffee house made me even more realized that I was literally in my imaginary coffee house, which is a good thing because I feel comfortable, owned and welcomed. I really love how they designed the interior to be spacial, minimalist, sort of vintage western style coffee house, the best thing about this is actually I am torn between labeling this as "Coffee Shop" or "Coffee House". Whatever it is, it definitely is "Koultoura".

This coffee house is so strong on its branding, I am a major worshiper of typo art and illustration and I love how the brand is using these four characters as parts of Koultoura and the application starting from the name card, the paper base, cup base to my favorites ones: the hanging paintings! They were like family portraits of the owner of this house. My favorite one was the rabbit!

A well designed coffee house needs a gorgeous book. Plus point that they have Monocles here :D.

This is the friend that I talked about earlier, say hi to Riska!

We had Croque Madame and Foxie's Hangover Cure for the lunch that day.

Croque Madam
IDR 45k (before tax)

Technically a sandwich with ham with generous amount of cream cheese, this dish does look pretty and it indeed actually tasted "pretty" decent too, even though I am not a big fan of cheese, I gotta say that the cheese was not overpowering, however I still need to try this dish for a subjective POV. This is Riska's order and she kinda enjoyed it.

Foxie's Hangover Cure
IDR 45k (before tax)

This was my order for the lunch, it's actually the brunch menu of this restaurant but I still wanted to have this because the description rings the most unique and I am pre-impressed by the description. It's such a simple presentation yet the simplicity left a rather strong impression. I honestly liked this one and the ultra-soft boiled eggs is pleasant. The only complaint that I have was for the small size, for me it's small for the same amount of prize spent on the Croque Madam.

Hot Chocolate for the day!
IDR 25k (before tax)

This one's decent! I would recommend this one for the beverage, I wanted to try the coffee but too bad they were running out of the coffee beans so coffee was not destined for me that day :(.

It's getting late, we should go home.
Exterior view of Koultoura during the night.

Going to leave you guys with probably what you're most excited of... The Mural Painting! Gotta give credit for the artist for making such a beautiful yet detailed drawing. God loves you and you're friggin talented.

Gotta try this hip new coffee house guys! With its branding and strong concept, I believe they can survive in this industry, they just need to make sure that they're keeping their feet on the ground and continue doing its best at serving. Koultoura is best for hanging out with your group of friends, I'd recommend during the night, I don't know I just love the vibe more during the night for a coffee.

Lasagna Lasagne by Virra Vinsenssa!

Advertorial

Ever since I was a little kid, I've been a huge fan of Italian food starting from the good old pasta to the pizza, but of course Italian food is not always around pasta or pizza, there are also some awesome italian food like Calzone, Bruschetta and my most favorite one: LASAGNA!

Basically, Lasagna is layers of pasta with minced beef, tomato sauce, creamy white sauce and cheese baked together resulting the most amazing culinary star! I don't know what's it with Lasagna but the thought of it already kills me when I'm hungry, I love that it left some prints in my heart and most of the times, makes me crave for more. Don't you just love the smell of your favorite Lasagna and the look of the sticky mozarella cheese when you slice it until the moment it melts in your mouth. Duh.

A very good person named Virra Vinsenssa contacted me and she wanted me to try her homemade Lasagna creations, lucky for me I'm not a food racist, I believe that people are gifted with talents and we always do things the way we do it so we have our own style in making something, and in this case, this Lasagna. I even got more excited when she told me that it's homemade.

Nah, so...just because that it's homemade it will always taste worse than the ones we can find in restaurants? Oh My God what year in the world do you think you're living? Some people just need to be more open minded!!! And trust me, some people just try too hard to convince themselves that the restaurant's food always tastes better and somehow got super blown away by the branding itself.

So it's an honor for me to introduce you to:
LASAGNA LASAGNE by Virra Vinsenssa!

I got the large package and that's already a good start, regarding that I am living with people who are beast and feast! It even smells so good it's like the smell tried so hard to tease my nose but somehow it did work! It also came with a simple clean packaging like the one above inside a paper bag.

I chose to reheat the Lasagna for a couple of minutes with medium heat because I wanted to experience the awesome fresh-from-the-oven look and smell of Lasagna.

And here's how it looks after I reheat it!

Just by looking at its original form I can see that it's cheesy and it looks like the most amazing/prettiest foodporn you've ever seen! I'm even hungry now as I am typing. What a bottomless pit of stomach I am having.

I can't help it anymore I need to slice it!!!
The smell even grew stronger as I sliced it and I could see a little smoke effect from the fresh-from-the-oven Lasagna. Can't you see that some of the cheese and cream left its spot at my slicing knife? Proving that it's super creamy!

Closer look to the Lasagna!
As you can clearly see, the layers of pasta in this Lasagna just melts along with the minced beef and the sauces. Damn why do I need to type this in the middle of the night it makes me super hungry now plus my brain starts to visualize the smell. I ate the whole half of this Lasagna and I didn't feel noxious at all, even for once. I love my pasta with a little chili sauce and I found them to be like soulmate to one another.

The tomato sauce is very generous here but somehow it didn't take over the whole combination of the taste, infact, those generous amount of tomato sauce just emphasize the deliciousness of the Lasagna to a certain level. You can say that I'm overrating this Lasagna but you just need to try it for yourself and therefore you'll understand.

So to make it short, clean and focused I'm just going to conclude this as
THE BEST LASAGNA I'VE EVER HAD IN LIFE! PERIOD!
No, I'm not kidding, I just finally found the best Lasagna in this world hidden somewhere at someone's home kitchen that definitely needs more publication! Please throw away a certain state in your mind and try opening it for certain things like...food and...this! I'm not overrating this just because this is an advertorial and I got sponsored, but this is just an honest review from a food lover who keeps on looking for great culinary treasures. This one makes me realize that I just found another one.

What makes it even better? The ingredients used here are PREMIUM QUALITY and taste won't lie, you can tell when something tastes classy and expensive, and for the vegetables, she goes with ORGANIC so it's totaly cleaner and healthier.

This Lasagna is available in two sizes:
Personal: 15 x 7 x 3 cm for IDR 45k
Large: 18 x 8 x 4.5 cm for IDR 85k

and if you're a vegetarian or you don't eat beef: DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY because there are also two other options for this: MUSHROOM LASAGNA and MIXED (Mushroom and Beef) LASAGNA!

Popbar Central Park: Not Your Typical Popsicles!

Great news for you!!! Popbar is finally in Jakarta and they have two outlets already!!! The nearest one to my home is the one located in Central Park, so it's easier for me to reach them and I'm going to give you guys the privelege of looking at their island of handmade sticks gelato, not literally an island, but everytime I look at those colorful popbars, I am always attracted to take pictures because they're so photogenic, colorful and dreamy. I bet kids are going to be in love with them.
They have tons of popbars to choose starting from the variants like chocolate and milk base, to the fruit base. I like the ones with the fruit base more because they're just tasted fresh and I love a little touch of sourness to the bars. Not that I don't like the milk and chocolate base, but it's just my personal liking.

I'd love to recommend you to try their uber delicious Pistachio bar, personally, I think it's the best. For the fruit base one, I'm going to go with the original strawberry and the peach, I just love the medium sweetness with a little touch of sourness. Totally the bars for your summer. Imagine having them on a hot day at the beach.

For the pricing, it starts from IDR 25k (for the most basic one, no topping) until 36k (after toppings and dippings), each topping/dipping will cost you additional 3k, frankly speaking, a little pricy, but to stop you from wondering, you need to try them for yourself.

Have I told you that they don't use any artifical coloring and completely natural?
Complete flavor list: papaya, coffee, mint, watermelon, pistachio, peach, giandula, lemon, coconut, banana, peanut butter, orange, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, guava, hazelnut & mxied-berries.

School Food Bloomingmari Central Park: Ttepokki Madness!

So a new korean restaurant is opening at Central Park. The korean culture is turning and growing into a posessing vibe through our community and social these days, especially from the culinary section. I've been noticing that more and more korean themed restaurants are opening. Let's just hope that they tasted nice and not only taking the trend for granted.

The restaurant I'm going to be reviewing is called School Food Bloomingmari. This restaurant is a franchise from its origin country, South Korea. Don't ask me what kind of food served here because I guess you guys can already figure that out.

Initially, I only wanted to have a light snack while enjoying the vibe of the restaurant. So I guess me and my friends go with their (sort of famous) Tteopokki. For those of you who don't know what Tteopokki is, it's a kind of boiled rice cake and usually being served with this spicy red sauce in Korea. The sauce itself actually tastes in between spicy-sour and sweet, as well as tangy. I don't know the proper word to really define the taste so I guess you better give a shot. The restaurant itself is so unique, it actually reminds me more of a school cafetaria, maybe that's why they named it School Food.

Virgin Mojito (Lime Mojito)
IDR 30k (before tax)

Strawberry Freeze
IDR 30k (before tax)

I think I was lucky enough to order this because when I start to get into the meals, you'll know what I mean. By the way, I was hoping this to be more icy and memorable (you know when blended drinks still has the concrete ice texture), maybe they just served it this way, but for my liking, I was expecting more of the texture and extravagant flavor because the name was already convincing enough.

Spicy Carbonara Tteopokki
IDR 85k (before tax)

To be honest, when I was looking at the menu, I started to imagine that Tteopokki will fit with the creamy carbonara sauce, regarding to the texture of the Tteopokki itself, so I dare myself ordering this one.

I wasn't expecting this size, it's a little heavy for my ideal light meal (but hey, at least I got this size instead of the little one, right, and plus, you can share) and remember the price that I'm paying, it shouldn't be too little or else I will consider this not worth it. Taste? I like it, I think it's decent. I love how creamy the carbonara sauce is, it's thick and cheesy but not overpowering, Back to my early imagination about Tteopokki and carbonara sauce, I think I'll recommend this one to everyone reading this post, they're such lovers to one another.

Original Tteopokki
IDR 55k (before tax)

This one is the devil. Oh My Holy Smooch!!! First try and I'd rather stop, I don't know what's with me, but ever since I was a little kid, everytime my tounge sense something that's spicy, my sweat will start to pour like a heavy waterfall, the spicier, even heavier "waterfall" live action occurs. So, I guess for me, this is pretty spicy. Aside from how spicy this Tteopokki is, I still sense the goodness of this, I think it's still delicious and it has a little touch of Kimchi. You should try.

I still prefer the Carbonara Tteopokki to the original one. I think it's just more unique and more special, but it's always back to your preference. For those of you who are such big fans of korean culture and wanted to try exploring it, you can give this restaurant a try, it's totally not bad, but I just don't think that it's traditional enough (incase you're looking for one).

Thanks for reading, until the next post :)

A Djournal to Revisit: Djournal Coffee Grand Indonesia.

So I have a new coffee shop crush, it is Djournal Coffee from Ismaya Group. Anyway, I have reviewed this coffee shop before, one which located in Summarecon Mal Serpong 2 and incase you miss it, you can read the review HERE.

I've been anticipating about this coffee shop release in Grand Indonesia because I often go to Grand Indonesia (literally at least once every week) and everytime I pass this, I notice the construction is getting better and better, and as what I get to experience for myself last week, I think I just fell in love <3.

I love the atmosphere of this coffee shop! Maybe I was a little carried away by the rain since it was raining pretty mild and it tends to be a little cold inside and I was single (NOT RELEVANT!) aaaa..no, I'm joking. Seriously this place gets kinda cold during the night and I love cold places so I have no problem. It's just better to be in a cold place rather than a hot place.

The difference between the the outlet here and the one in SMS 2 is slightly the area, I personally think the SMS2's outlet is the bigger one, but overall I find the Grand Indonesia outlet more comfortable to stay around, it's just the perfect size, they play nice musics and seriously, I love a coffee shop that's surrounded by the smell of brewed coffee, it's just amazing and addicting. I also love the fact that this coffee shop in Grand Indonesia is more private-feeling rather than the one in SMS 2 which seems like more opened.

I got seated just beside the window with a perfect outdoor view and it was raining and I adore rain, I think it's somehow a miracle.
"There's something about the way, the street looks when it's just rained" - Taylor Swift "Fearless".

They have the cutest menu design ever. Almost the same concept of Anomali's only with a touch of their creativity.

This is the summary of what we (I came with my sister) ordered that night.
Left to right: Iced Salted Caramel, Hazelnut Nutella Cake, Iced Caramel Macchiato with whipped cream <3.

First of all, let me just tell you that THEY HAVE DROP DEAD GORGEOUS COFFEE. Slightly a bit strong in taste comparing to the brand 'x' I also do love (you know what I mean) and I think the champion for the night was the one and only Hazelnut Nutella Cake. During my visit to the SMS2's outlet, I also ordered the Nutella Cake, only different looking and taste. This one was titled with additional word of "Hazelnut" but if you ever tried the one is SMS2, it's not much different, almost the same.

Hazelnut Nutella Cake
IDR 28.000 (before tax)

I thought the texture on top of the cake surface is a chocolate powder, but it's totally a cripsy layer of something I'm not sure I can't explain, it's like a very thin crispy chocolate layer that melts in your mouth. What a genius!

Rich glimpse of delicious caramel sauce all over your caramel macchiato is such a genius one way guilty pleasure.
Iced Caramel Macchiato
IDR 39.000 (before tax)

Iced Salted Caramel
IDR 36.000

If you ask me what coffee to recommend having here, I would really recommend this over the Caramel Macchiato. I personally like this better than the CM, it's strong but not overpowering (since not everyone like very strong coffees) and this one is generally more friendly, sweeter and different :).

My date for the night, everyone says we look alike.

For those three treats, we spent around IDR 119k nett, a pretty good deal for an amazing coffee experience.

Djournal Coffee is certainly not a new coffee shop to underestimate, and they don't sell "outer look/physical appearance" you might probably fall in love with this coffee shop like me :)).

Thank you for reading! and if you have any comments about this coffee shop, do share your personal opinions and leave comments :D.
